What was meant to be a worthwhile working weekend was the weekend from hell. We hadn't intended leaving the property, we had brought all our food and Thermomix, ready to prepare all our own meals. It was impossible to cook in the kitchen - all we managed was basic fruit cutting and one light breakfast.

There are notices everywhere to do all your cleaning, even stripping the beds etc.

The pool area was dirty and unusable.

The bedrooms were fine, spacious and decent beds, but they line one side of a long corridor. On the other side of the corridor is a small laundry, and the tiniest, oldest, hardly usable kitchen you have ever seen. Next to that is a dark, dingy, smelly small sitting room with no windows. Then at one end is a reception area that is supposedly your lounge room. It is small and virtually unusable. You cannot operate the lights or air conditioning yourself, they are on a timer. You walk straight outside to the car park area.

At around 9-10pm on the first night when we couldn't locate the light switch to change the bright lights that were beaming down on half the people on the lounge we called the owner - Dawn - who lives up the driveway in another house. She was drunk (or high on something) and abusive. After hanging up on us numerous times she appeared - no knocking, just shouting and ranting and raving about why should we be able to control the lights ourselves etc. When one of our group asked her a questions she told us to tell someone who cared.

There is no dining room or dining table.

But be warned, it is not a luxury country house at all, rather a badly disguised motel.

We paid $3,400 for 7 people for 2 nights - biggest rip off around.

On numerous occasions since we stayed there we have asked for a partial refund, we have been continually ignored.

My husband and I stayed for a weekend and had a lovely time didn't see much of anyone ( Hunter Valley is great) . The rooms are Big , bed was great! But not so clean, plants in the room really needed some TLC ,lots of dust on top of pot plants and leaves of plants also bedhead and picture frames . No plate for toast on the first morning.. Also had toilet paper on the floor behind toilet door . One review spoke about noise from other rooms and even though we only had two other couples staying which we had a room between us you could hear them through the walls . Value for money NO was over priced for what it is NO WAY 5 STAR !!! Go there again NO not unless around at least $100 cheaper per night .

Our third visit to Patrick Plains Estate and we are yet to find fault with anything. The rooms are exceptionally clean. Not having a cellar door or restaurant on the premises ensures a peaceful, relaxing time to take in the incredible scenery.

This ridiculous place needs shutting down or describing as a 3 star motel, which is what it is.

We were also threatened by Dawn that if the place was not spotless when we left she would keep our $1,000 deposit.

As a business group of 7 people about to go on retreat for 3 or 4 days, we were looking for a luxurious house with around 7 bedrooms. Pokolbin Country House looked like it fitted the bill when you read the listing on Stayz and see the pictures.
